SPA - BELGIUM RACE REPORT Empty Ippy's Spa Race Report

Post by Guest Sun Mar 04, 2012 12:43 pm

Cool race.

Got done over in qualifying by 8 tenths, and it turns out moody was on Primes!!!!!!

Rain ended most peoples qually sessions early, no more improvements.

Happy to beat my team mate by 7 tenths though Razz

2nd & 3rd for Ferrari in qually.

The race, I used a dry setup - which worked at the beginning when it was dry.

Got spanked around on the first corner moody moved around a lot under breaking. His decision where to break. however i had to watch out for both him and john under breaking. I think this is why everybody bunched and I got wiped. Wasn't happy but as nobody seemed to know who caused it, no problem Razz

Caught straight up to John on the next lap and tried to take him on the inside of eau rouge, thought I had it done and John thought he'd left me space, yet through the magic of F1 2011 game play, I went round and round and round. Lost 20 seconds and was miles behind - the rain started.

I stayed out longer than everyone bar moody. i think it was a good decision as i retained 2nd after the others stopped. then...

Moody crashed, rhian crashed and i think someone else crashed. SC out, bunched the field. took out the quickest guy.

i put wets on in my stop , it started chucking it down, john & brian went back in under SC for wets so my advantage was gone, but i had track position.

held like this till lap 18/18 - turns out i didn't fuel save enough. steve had contact with john and they both lost chunks of time while i had no accleration with no fuel. luckily i just scraped across the line as the other 2 guys lost time in a collision scenario. i feel bar the fuel save & moody crashing i had the pace for 2nd so the win is a bonus and Ferrari top the drivers & teams titles.

will punishments be given in lieu of league 3 events?

let's see, for now a great start to league 3, most were clean , had no problem with any individuals, a much nicer environment than league 2, and i think due to the late start, we had no disconnections!

brilliant, see ya next Saturday 1030 guys

lots of love
ippy

Think the only obstacle for you was me on the first couple of laps but hey! Spa is the track were we do collide funnily enough if you remember couple of weeks ago!
Anyway - enough "asslicking" :S

Qualli - 3rd
Went out early on because i knew rain was inevitable and couldn't string a perfect lap. Backed out of a quick lap because my tyres weren't up to temperature and i got caught up in traffic. Rain came and i decided to put inters on to see how the car felt on high fuel and on wet tyres. It was surprisingly good! Very Happy

Race - 3rd
Was quite optimistic starting behind pole-sitter. He seemed to dart across and i was caught out and my team mate was also involved. This 2nd 3rd start soon resulted in me and Ippy being 7th + 8th. No matter, i saved lap 4 to collide with my team mate at Eau Rouge. Felt like he needed to be reminded that i am no Luca Badoer! Wink
Safety car saved me big time. Pitted for Inters and then pitted for wets and still maintained 2nd place after a crashing phase from my other competitors which meant a Ferrari 1+2 was on the cards. Had a good battle with Stevo. There was a point when i outbreaked myself and dived down the inside and escaped contact. However, the drama came about the last lap when Steve tried a move around the outside of Blanchimont. I felt like i defended very hard because i didn't want a league 2 repeat. However, i felt contact on my right rear and spun out of control. It nearly ended my race but fortunately i got 15 points when at the start, it looked like i would get 1!. Learnt alot today and had time to think about the people i am racing with which prepares me for tomorrow.

Ive just seen the 3rd video. Me & John switched places through a connection issue goin up Eau Rouge when he was leading as i had close slipstream behind him, i felt i gained an unfair advantage & gave the position back less than 20 seconds later.

On the Kemmel straight i got very close behind John (who was most likely fuel saving on fuel mix 1, i was on mix 3) just before the fast Blanchimont left hander i went flat out onto the grass just before the run off area & i very widely overtook John to ensure we didnt collide as i quickly noticed he went wide onto the run off when he took the flat out corner. I was able rejoin the track off full thottle safely ahead & keep position before crossing the line in 2nd. A good clean battle with John (Its always the same lol) & of course a very good result for me & for the team. Very Happy
